UCD is the largest third and fourth level Higher education institution in the Republic of Ireland, with a current student population of 22,303 full and part-time students. We enjoy a long and proud tradition of scholarship and learning, dating from Cardinal Newman’s vision of liberal education, in 1854. We are working hard to build on our tradition of student success, enhancing the UCD learning and teaching experience and our contribution to Irish society and beyond. We are currently emerging from a period of intense academic, administrative and curricular re-structuring, and are implementing the European Bologna Higher Education reforms.
The Registrar and Vice-President for Academic Affairs works with a team of dedicated staff who support the students’ learning experience and the development of teaching, learning and assessment at UCD.
A quality-assured, flexible, modular curriculum at all levels. UCD is now a fully modular and semesterised University, from undergraduate to doctoral levels. We make use of the European Credit Transfer Accumulation (ECTS) to enable students enjoy flexibility both in curriculum design and their individual learning pathways, and achieve greater mobility both within their programmes at UCD and across European and other International universities.
Our approach to student support is evolving in the context of the increased opportunities offered by the new, modular curriculum; in addition, we are striving to create a more fully inclusive and accessible campus where Ireland’s changing population, and the changing needs of business and the community can be accommodated through innovative, quality-assured academic provision and student services.
Information on our academic programmes is available through an on-line curriculum browsing facility or by accessing individual School and College and Graduate School pages.
International ambition.
We aspire to become a fully international university , both in our staff and student community, the experiences of our students, and the extent of our global scholarship and research connections. We provide a range of opportunities for students to both experience study at other universities and to have their Dublin experience enriched by interaction with a wide range of international students here on campus. UCD is an active member of the Universitas 21 network.

The social fund has been established in support of UCD’s strategic plan, which seeks to create a world-class, student-focused environment to support the holistic development of students.
The fund is aimed at facilitating residents coming together, to encourage them to mix and relax with each other, and so ease the transition to University, and life in residences and in doing so also promote a residential environment, which is conducive to academic achievement, personal growth and respect for the rights of all residents.
