Aideen Rickard In Dublin, Ireland

Aideen began singing lessons at the age of five with Mrs Patricia Swan. At the age of twelve she started at the Kylemore College of Music under Brendan Keyes. From 1996 Aideen studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music under Macej Smolenski, winning the Violet Byrne Scholarship for singing, and later under Philip O'Reilly, also at the R.I.A.M. Aideen has won a number of cups, medals and certificates of merit in the feiseanna (competitions) over the years. Aideen graduated from Trinity College, Dublin, in 2001 with a BA in Music, mainly specialising in Early Music.

In 2003, Aideen joined Anúna. She has performed in the National Concert Hall in Dublin, Ireland, and toured with the group in Britain, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, The Netherlands, Switzerland, America and Japan. Television and radio appearances include the BBC World Service, Abair Amhráin ar TG4, Swedish National Television (SVT2) and Good Day Atlanta on Fox5. Aideen features as a soloist on Anúna Live at Annedal, Best of Anúna and on their new albumSensation.

Aideen is currently a member of New Dublin Voices under Bernie Sherlock. The choir has won many awards and prizes so far including National Choir of the Year in 2006 and 2008 at the Navan Choral Festival, National Chamber Choir of the Year at the Cork Choral Festival, and Navan Choral Competition in 2006, first-prize in both mixed-choir competitions at the Dublin Feis Ceoil in 2006, 2007, 2008 and the prize for 'Best New Work' (Sea Swell by Enda Bates) at the 2008 Florilège Vocal de Tours in France.

From 1999 to 2002 Aideen was a member of Christ Church Cathedral Choir, winning Choral Scholarships in 2000 and 2001, singing at four weekly services. In 2003 and 2004 she was in the Christ Church Cathedral Consort, a smaller group which sang solely at Saturday Evensong.

Aideen began singing in choirs in 1991 when she joined the RTÉ youth choir, Cór na nÓg. At the age of sixteen she graduated into the adult choir, the RTÉ Philharmonic. While with these choirs she appeared several times in the National Concert Hall, Dublin.

At college in Trinity Aideen sang with the College Chapel Choir from 1997 to 1999, where she held the soprano choral scholarship, and the College Singers until 2001.

Aideen has also been a member of the Capriole Consort, St. Patrick's Cathedral Chamber Choir, Mornington Singers, Trinity College School of Music Chamber Choir and St. Peter's Church Choir, Phibsboro. She has also sung with Trinity College Choral Society, R.I.A.M. Chamber Choir, D.I.T. Chamber Choir, Gaudete, and in a performance of Steve Reich’s Proverb by the Alpha Company. Aideen was a soloist with all of the choirs mention here, except the D.I.T. Chamber Choir and the RTÉ Philharmonic, and is often asked to take part in 'scratch' choirs to fill in at services in St. Patrick's Cathedral and various other churches around the city.
