Sports & Pursuits
This festival has been run at Rosslare for the last 19 years originally by Mr Tommy Byrne who owns the Burrow Park Holiday Camp, But due to ill health in 1999 felt he was no longer able to give it the time and effort required to run it successfully. At this time a very big thank must go out to Tommy and all his family (who still supports the festival by donating prizes and joining us at all the evening entertainment) plus all his hard working staff who with-out them this festival would not be the success it is.
Thankfully some of the anglers who had taken part for quite a few years (Phil Hallsworth, John Meano and Norman Dunlop )decided that they would carry on the festival, organising and running it themselves.
And now with over 30 boats and crew taking part it is one of the biggest small boat competitions in Ireland with boats arriving from all parts of the U.K. and Ireland.
About the Festival:
The competition is run from the Grangewood Holiday Homes, Rosslare Strand as a species hunt over 4 days, weather permitting of course, with the boats split into 4 groups leaving the holiday park at 30 minute intervals returning 9 hours later. It is run as a go as you please event but with the fish rich grounds around the Saltee Islands most head straight for Kilmore Quay with its perfect slipway and sheltered harbour.
There are daily cash prizes for the top 3 boats plus other prizes. Then there are the overall cash and trophy prizes for the top 6 boats plus many other prizes.
