Northern Ireland Association of Aero-modellers In Derry, Ireland

The Northern Ireland Association of Aero-modellers (NIAA) is the governing body for all British Model Flying Association (BMFA) affiliated clubs in Northern Ireland. Our committee is elected by, and from representatives of the local Northern Ireland clubs, with an aim to promote, protect, organise and encourage model flying throughout Northern Ireland. We also help coordinate club events and activities, and act as a contact and representative to the BMFA. We are accredited in these rolls by the Sports Council for Northern Ireland (SCNI).

We currently have twenty five affiliated clubs located throughout the province, most of which are involved in a range of radio controlled (RC) model flying activities such as powered fixed wing, gliders, jet turbine, and helicopters. Some specialise in specific disciplines such as control-line and free flight (indoor). All of our clubs offer friendly help and advice on whatever type of model flying interests you (see our "Clubs" page for information on your nearest flying site). Our clubs organise many events throughout the year ranging from fun fly-ins, splash-ins and competitions, to talks and seminars. With such a range of activities and events we are sure you will find one that suits your interests.

As Area 13 of the BMFA we have encouraged our clubs to adopt policies on safety, the protection of children and vulnerable adults, and the development of safe flying practices through the BMFA Achievement Scheme. Many of our clubs have approved and registered instructors who are more than happy to help both novice and experienced flyers improve their skills. As your flying skills progress we have qualified examiners who can test you on the BMFA "A" and "B" certificates, however the emphasis with all our clubs and members is always on FUN !
